Selleys Wet Seal is a one part, ready to use, high performance co-polymer sealant. It cures to a translucent, flexible rubber with excellent adhesion to most building materials and has good U.V. resistance.

Uses 

It can be used on wet metals, including Zincalume®, zinc coated steel and aluminium as well as PVC and many plastics. It can be used even if these materials have an oily surface film typical of new metals. Wet Seal is suitable for lap joints in guttering, roofing and flashing and also for many building sealing applications.

Technical Features

• High performance solvent based adhesive. Note: When use on glass to glass, thin film application is recommended for better clarity.
• Good paintability - Paintable with water based paints. Oil based paints require undercoating with water based paints first.
• Excellent resistance to water and weather makes it suitable for interior and exterior applications.

Application Tips

• Cannot be used on polystyrene foam
• Should not be use in enclosed space or without adequate ventilation
• May not adhere to some wet porous substrates, such as some wet concrete surfaces or wood, or to some old wet metals
• Not recommended for permanent water immersion or water containment structures
• Should be primed with a water based undercoat prior to painting with oil-based paints
• Wet Seal will not adhere to surfaces contaminated with soap, detergent, dust or loose particles
• Wet Seal cures relatively slowly (01.mm per day)
• Some bubbling may occur if applied to very hot non-porous substrates
• Wet Seal will not adhere through frost or ice

A bead of 6mm is slightly opaque and light yellow

Skin time

45 seconds @ 25ºC, 90 seconds @ 7ºC

Tack free time

Less than 4.5 minutes @ 25ºC, less than 5 minutes @ 7ºC

Cure

Neutral - will not attack metal or concrete substrates

UV Stability

Slight chalking on surface after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering in the QUV weatherometer

Paintability

Water-based Paints: Good

Alkyd Paints: Good, after first undercoating with a water-based paint. Unless first coated with a water-based paint the sealant adversely affects drying of alkyd paints.

Adhesion

Tests conducted on brass, copper, Zincalume®, galvanised iron, mild steel, anodised aluminium, milled aluminium, copperised sheet lead, Alsynite - fibre glass roofing, Malthoid - asbestos reinforced bitumen, terrazzo, marble, cured concrete and PVC. Satisfactory adhesion is achieved to all of the above substrates whether sealant was applied to wet or dry substrates.

Clean Up

Clean up tools, hands and spills before sealant cures with mineral turps or white spirit.
